10 Most Common Embarrassing Habits

nosepickHave you ever been sitting at a stop light and looked over to see some guy with his finger up his nose?  Or better yet, jamming out to a song and playing his air drums?  Don’t you just want to ask them if they think their invisible or something?  We can see you!  What is it about being in your car alone that makes you think that people can’t see through glass?  Check out the following funny list of the Top 10 Embarrassing Habits.

  1. Burping. Is it just guys or are there women out there too that take burping to a competitive level?  Children think all bodily noises are funny, but there’s just something that makes all kids try to burp their ABC’s.  I guess some kids just never grow up.
  2. Farting. Here’s another bodily noise that it seems guys find amusing.  And who exactly was the first ever college student to figure out that if he put an open flame near his butt when he farted that it would shoot a flame?  I just find these things curious.  The noise is so funny that kids and adults alike learn how to make the noise using their hand in their armpit.  Not to mention that it wouldn’t take too long to find a toy or gag gift that farts.  Seriously, people make some serious money selling farting noises.  Go figure.
  3. Nose Picking. Okay, who hasn’t had an itchy nose at some point and really sometimes it is necessary, but that is what they have tissues for people!  Not to mention can you do it in the privacy of your own home or at least the bathroom?  What is up with people who have their finger buried to the second knuckle driving down the road?  Wake up!  We can see you.
  4. Spitting. I know those that chew have to spit out the juice or whatever it is, but do we all have to see it splattered on the ground?  Can you spit in a can or something?  Or better yet, give up that nasty habit.  It’s gonna kill ya.
  5. Being late. Now I know we’ve been on a bodily function kick, but there are other embarrassing habits.  It’s pretty embarrassing to walk into a meeting 20 minutes late.  You can only blame it on traffic so many times before people figure out that you just have a lack of planning.
  6. Talking to Yourself. This one I have to admit that I am guilty of on occasion.  However, I don’t tend to do it in public so I think my secret is safe.  You’ve heard the old adage that you should think before you speak.  Is there one about rehearsing what you are going to say before you say it?
  7. Cussing. To some, this is not embarrassing in the least, it’s a way of life.  But to others they cuss at home, but don’t cuss in public.  Unfortunately it’s pretty easy to slip up if you jam your toe or drop your drink.  Now everyone knows you can cuss like a sailor.
  8. Biting your Nails. Some people claim they do this only when they are stressed.  Well, stressed or not it looks gross to be gnawing on your fingers while you’re waiting for an appointment.  Not to mention it doesn’t look professional when you go to shake hands with your future employer at an interview.  If you’re a woman I’d suggest getting fake nails.  They look better and they are much harder to chew on.
  9. Chewing pens. Smokers or ex-smokers do this a lot because they need something in their mouths.  Others are just stuck in an oral phase.  Please consider giving up the habit though because it’s really gross to pick up a pen to write with at work and it has teeth marks on it.
  10. Singing in your Car. Witnessing this has got to be one of the funniest things.  I especially like the air drumming.  I freely admit that I love to sing in my car, but if someone sees me I pretend I’m talking on my cell phone.  Doesn’t everyone?

25 Eye Popping Optical Illusions

Here are some illusions that will make your head spin. All of these are JPG images, they are not flash or any video. On most of these if you stare at different spots, you will notice that the movement stops. If you put your mouse on one spot that seems to move, you will be able to see that it is not moving at all.

Jobs Kids Dream of Versus Jobs They Get

If you are like me when you were growing up you wrote at least a few essays on what you wanted to be when you grow up. Well not to long ago Forbes magazine did an article that detailed the most common responses that kids give to one of the following common questions:

  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • What do you picture yourself doing in 5, 10, 20 years?
  • Who in your class is most likely to be a fill in the blank?

Lost In Space (XXL)

There are so many variations of questions that we talk to kids about and yet so few responses about what they will be when they grow up. Here are the ten most common responses according to Forbes magazine (in alphabetical order):

  • Astronaut
  • Athlete (Pro)
  • Dancer
  • Doctor
  • Fire Fighter
  • Lawyer
  • Movie Star
  • Police Officer
  • Rock Star
  • Writer

All of those are fantastic choices and things that many of us would be happy to be. However, it doesn’t really match up with the reality of what most Americans actually become when they grow up. We went to the U.S. Department of Labor to find out what the top ten jobs in America are and they follow:

  1. Retail Salesperson – 4.4 million
  2. Cashiers – 3.5 million
  3. Office Clerks – 2.9 million
  4. Food Preparation and Service – 2.7 million
  5. Registered Nurses – 2.5 million
  6. Waiters and waitresses – 2.3 million
  7. Laborers and Freight – 2.3 million
  8. Customer Service Representatives – 2.2 million
  9. Janitors and Cleaners – 2.1 million
  10. Stock Clerks – 1.8 million
  11. Secretaries – 1.8 million

So as you can see and probably could have guessed, many people end up in occupations that are not even close to what they dreamed of being when they were young. That’s not really a bad thing it’s just a part of life as we get busy and find ourselves needing to meet the basic human needs of food, shelter, etc. This tends to lead us to taking whatever jobs we can get in order to get started on life after we leave our parent’s homes. It’s also very true that as we get older we realize that we really just aren’t made to be a pro athlete or movie star. Many of us are too slow or not the most attractive people on the planet. The reality of our genetic makeup sets in and leads us to other endeavors.

Whatever the reason may be sometimes we find ourselves doing jobs that just allow us to eek out an existence. That may be fine or we may choose to do something about where we are in life. If you have a dream job that you would love to have but just are struggling to fit school into your schedule or budget. I hope you will consider the flexibility that an online college will provide you with. Through an online college you could possibly find the true job of your dreams. Although they won’t help you become a professional athlete, but quite possibly a fire fighter, police officer, or another really great career that you will love.

Comic Strips We Love to Read

comic2Did you know that it’s estimated that if newspapers stay in their current format that they will all go out of business by 2048?  If we lose newspapers we will lose the original comics that are in the newspaper.  However, comics are making the switch to the web so you can read your news online and your comics too.  It’s just a bit harder to cut out your favorite strip and pin it up on the wall in your office.  Check out these Top 10 Comic Strips still in print today.

  1. Peanuts is still one of the most popular comic strips of all time.  While Charles Schultz has passed away his comic strips live on in syndication.  I don’t think we’ll ever get enough of Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
  2. Dilbert remains one of the most published comic strips appearing in over 2000 newspapers worldwide.  Scott Adams created Dilbert and was first published in more than twenty years ago in April of 1989.  This office based comic strip hits home with many white-collar workers who can feel Dilbert’s pain.
  3. Garfield the fat cat was created by Jim Davis and has been running in papers since 1978.  This comic strip about a spoiled cat (Garfield) and the faithful dog (Odie) is syndicated in almost 2600 newspapers world-wide and holds the Guinness record for being the most widely syndicated comic strip.
  4. For Better or For Worse is one of those comics that might not sound familiar, but as soon as you see it you would recognize it.  This strip has been in publication since 1979 and was created by Lynn Johnson.  This largely autobiographical strip is set in Canada and tells a story about the Patterson family.
  5. Blondie is an oldie, but a goodie.  Blondie was first published in 1930!  The original artist was Chic Young who passed away in 1973, but control of the comic passed to his son Dean Young who has enlisted the help of many other artists over the years to keep the strip fresh.
  6. Doonesbury comes in as our first political comic strip.  No one is off limits in this strip including the president.  The characters differ more than other comic strips as well, but this strip has remained popular since it’s origination in 1968.
  7. Calvin and Hobbes has been around since 1985 and in its hay day was syndicated in over 2400 newspapers.  Few newspapers still carry this comic, but I wanted to include it because as of Dec. 2009 the United States Post Office has announced that there will be a Calvin and Hobbes postage stamp coming out in July 2010.
  8. Dennis the Menace will celebrate its 60th anniversary in March 2010.  Hank Ketcham created this strip.  Ketcham no longer draws the comic, but his former assistants have carried on in his stead.  Dennis the Menace stories became so popular that they went on to become animated series, TV shows and films.
  9. Marmaduke justly named for the Great Dane who is the main character in this strip.  The Winslow family goes through their share of trials and tribulations with their very large dog Marmaduke.  This comic was created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and is still drawn by him today.  Marmaduke finally makes his Hollywood debut in theaters June 2010.
  10. Mother Goose and Grimm features Grimm who is a bull terrier, Attila the cat and the goose that they refer to as mom.  Storylines utilize real life people, Greek mythology and other fictional characters.  This comic went on to be a cartoon in 1991, which featured animation talent from Stephen Hillenburg, who went on to create Sponge Bob Square Pants.
